1st ANGLICO is a U.S. Marine Corps unit that specializes in combined arms, fire support, and communications capabilities in order to partner with and enable any assigned unit across the range of military operations (ROMO) such as the US Army, US Special Forces, and U.S. allies. 1st ANGLICO is manned, trained and equipped to deliver devastating lethal and non-lethal effects across the battlefield.
1st and 2nd ANGLICO were reconstituted after being disbanded in 1999 and replaced with the Marine Liaison Element (MLE). Elements of 1st MLE took part in the invasion of Iraq. Once reformed, due to the dual theater requirements, 1st ANGLICO, with support from 3rd ANGLICO, started a 7-month in theater and 5-month CONUS starboard/port rotation with 2nd ANGLICO. 1st ANGLICO would deploy to Iraq, as a company, three times supporting an array of units spread-out across Al Anbar Province. Various teams would see significant combat in cities such as Al-Qa'im, Fallujah, Ramadi, and Habbaniya. The deployment rotations in Iraq continued until 2009 when they were ordered to support Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF) in Afghanistan. 1st ANGLICO deployed twice to Afghanistan as a company. Elements of 1st ANGLICO continued to deploy in support of GWOT until the end of both OIF and OEF, supporting units such as the Canadian military, Danes, Afghan military, Afghan Police, the Georgians, 4th and 11th Brigades from the UK, the US Army, and US Army Special Forces and Naval Special Warfare.
